چکیده

Background We have previously identified that right ventricular systolic dysfunction (RVSD), present in one third of patients with non-ischaemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), is an independent predictor of all cause mortality and cardiac transplantation. CMR provides a robust and reliable way of quantifying RVSD. The natural history of RVSD in DCM has not been formally evaluated. We sought to evaluate whether baseline left ventricular systolic function is predictive of the development of RVSD and whether progression of right-sided ventricular impairment is linked to progression of leftsided ventricular impairment.

Evaluating the significance of left ventricular midwall fibrosis detected by late gadolinium enhancement imaging on left ventricular functional remodelling in dilated cardiomyopathy

Background Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is associated with a 20% 5 year mortality rate. We identified that the presence of left ventricular (LV) midwall fibrosis, detected by CMR late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), was associated with a 5 fold increased risk of cardiovascular death and adverse events, independently of established predictors of outcome. The natural course of DCM is however variab...

The kinetic energies of left ventricular 4D flow components correlate with established markers of prognosis and represent novel imaging biomarkers in both ischaemic and dilated cardiomyopathy

Background Despite different aetiology of myocardial damage in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and ischaemic cardiomyopathy (IHD), cardiac remodelling occurs in both, culminating in the end result of a dilated left ventricle with impaired function. Cardiac remodelling is a complex process in which numerous cellular, mechanical and flow processes become deranged. Insights into changes of multidimen...

Myocardial inflammation on cardiovascular magnetic resonance predicts left ventricular function recovery in children with recent dilated cardiomyopathy.

AIMS To analyse the predictive role of myocardial inflammation assessed by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) on the outcome of recently diagnosed dilated cardiomyopathy in children. METHODS AND RESULTS Over a period of 4 years, 66 children underwent CMR within 2 weeks after the diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy. CMR sequences sensitive for oedema, hyperaemia, and irreversible injury were app...

Comparison between Brain Natriuretic Peptide and Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide in Children with Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Background: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is revealed with the left ventricular dilatation and systolic dysfunction. This study was performed to determine the level of Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide (CGRP) and Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) in children with dilated cardiomyopathy and controls and comparison of these two biomarkers in patients. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was...

Electrocardiographic and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging parameters as predictors of a worse outcome in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy

AIMS Clinical parameters are weak predictors of outcome in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC). We assessed the prognostic value of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) parameters in addition to conventional clinical and electrocardiographic characteristics. METHODS AND RESULTS One hundred and forty-one IDC patients were studied. QRS and QTc intervals were measured in 12-lead su...
